[7:55 PM, 10/14/2022] Cheng Wah: When we were young, we didn't bother, assumed good health was God-given, and would always be there. At this time, we need to challenge ourselves to keep ourselves interested in life. Personally, I do blogging and write my story. Back to you, my Fellow Classmates. Share with us how you pass your precious time?

These are extracted conversations for sharing:

[8:41 AM, 10/14/2022] Siraj: 1 more week to be 80. Very muted celebration because of health issues.

[8:44 AM, 10/14/2022] Siraj: Aging with the steady decline of many functions …. I definitely plan to meet up with you all next year!

[9:02 AM, 10/14/2022] Siraj: Short-term memory declining. Have to keep notes and repeat them to remind me. Looking forward to meeting you. I keep notes of things important to be. I have a  problem remembering names, especially of people  I seldom meet.

[9:12 AM, 10/14/2022] Frank: Wishing you all a happy and successful reunion.

My apology for not being able to be present because of personal reasons and my forthcoming  Cataract operation which requires pre-examination at end of October. Wishing everyone a great time reminiscing about the old days.

[9:22 AM, 10/14/2022] Cheng Wah: @Frank Chee I had my two cataracts removed last year, and this is because my vision was slightly blurring. In my opinion, it's good to have it treated early to see better during the remaining part of our lifetime. The actual procedure only takes about half an hour. Wish you good and healthy recovery vibes.

[9:24 AM, 10/14/2022] Phoon YK: I also have problems with my hearing and eyesight, I rate both about 70% efficient. I will have to give up the night driving for the time being. Time seems to pass by very quickly but actually, it is due to our poor memory, always looking for misplaced bills or documents resulting in time loss. The only solution is to clear those bills immediately.

[9:37 AM, 10/14/2022] Wong PC: Besides my eyes, my other problem is my leg pain and restricted movement. Had 2 injections to my pelvic joints about a couple of months ago. Only slight improvement. Suppose at our age, we all have to live with defects here and there. Can only hope there won't be more serious problems besetting us going forward.

[9:41 AM, 10/14/2022] Phoon YK: I fully agree with Cheng Wah on this. I used to move around at night but because of the cataract problem, I have to give it up, especially with the bad weather and the crazy Penang motorcyclists and drivers who don't follow the proper rules.

[9:45 AM, 10/14/2022] Wong PC: One way of locating things quickly is always to put your things like specs and rings in locations where one sweep of your eyes, you can spot it. Don't leave them in hard-to-see corners or ledges. I have no problem locating my ring or specs as I place them in easily seen places.

[9:56 AM, 10/14/2022] Cheng Wah: This chat group may be a good platform to share our experiences in life and the pains that we went through. Extract of our chat (related to aging only) can be kept in the blog.

[10:12 AM, 10/14/2022] Wong PC: This chatgroup is meant for all issues of interest and common to all of us, and of course, MBS matters. Health is common to all of us and we can input our experiences and even advice on how we have dealt with such issues. News and the fate of our schoolmates are very much welcome. Politics, religion, world, and current affairs are suitable only in the other mbs61 chatgroup.

[8:33 PM, 10/14/2022] Wong PC: Reading WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, and a bit of online news.😁😜

[9:02 PM, 10/14/2022] Siraj: I have switched from reading to audible. Cannot read much because of a combination of glaucoma, early cataract, and possible ( not sure) macular degeneration. I continue to walk 2 to 5 miles a day. I socialize every two weeks with a retired surgeon, anesthesiologist, and plastic surgery old friends. My son and his wife come over once a month for lunch. Watch movies. In another year or so, hope to sell the house and move to an institutional / assisted living. My wife is not happy but the house is getting hard to manage!

[9:49 PM, 10/14/2022] Pakmun: I am still working. So live my life the way working people do. 😃

[9:51 PM, 10/14/2022]  Pakmun: ....at home are my wife, daughter, son-in-law, and 2 working grandchildren.

[10:41 PM, 10/14/2022] Wong PC: Good for you, Mon. At least you still have your family, extended as well. Most time now, I am alone, not safe for people our age. That's the reason my wife insists on me staying with her in her shop house in Perak.

[10:51 PM, 10/14/2022] Pakmun: @Poh Chan, normally your wife should be living with you. However, if she has a shophouse and is running a business in Perak then you should be staying with her and helping out. You can even sell your house in Penang and relocate to Perak if the business is viable and generates positive cash flow.
Please note that my comments are made in good faith and from an external point of view. All decisions are yours and yours alone.

[12:03 AM, 10/15/2022] Siraj: For me,? moving in two years to a retirement home ( independent living) is best. All meals, continuous remote supervision, immediate access to medical care, exercise room, swimming pool, educational programs, daily housekeeping, and social activities, etc. My two children have not lived with us for two decades( local culture !). My two nieces and families live in New Jersey ( 3 hours by flight ).

[7:03 AM, 10/15/2022] Wong PC: I have been considering moving into a retirement home too if I have to live alone. It is the best option as we go into our twilight years and our physical ability and agility do not permit us to do household chores safely. I guess it's time for us to look around for a suitable place. The main purpose, besides the obvious, is supervision which we need.

[7:31 AM, 10/15/2022] Siraj: That is my first reason. The second reason is obviating any kitchen chores. Third is house maintenance. House needs constant care, and expenses are unavoidable.

[7:34 AM, 10/15/2022] Siraj: Spouse needs care, particularly after I am gone ( definitely antedates her exit )

[7:44 AM, 10/15/2022] Wong PC: To me, I used to be able to fix some basic maintenance work in the house, but now I find that to be a difficult area due to my lack of agility and leg pain. Difficult for me to squat and bend my legs.

[7:49 AM, 10/15/2022] Wong PC: For our age group, climbing up ladders to change light bulbs is a no-no. But what to do? We still need to do it but have to take extra precautions when climbing. This is one reason why we need to move into retirement homes due to our physical limitations, besides other health problems.

[7:54 AM, 10/15/2022] Siraj: Exactly my point! Recently senior proved the master bathroom and moved my office from the lower level to the ground level. Added safety handles all over, including the garage. I do not let my spouse walk on the snow ever. Both her hips are replaced. One more year to enjoy my large detached condo.

[11:23 AM, 10/15/2022] Pakmun: @Poh Chan, if you are thinking of moving to a retirement home, consider KL. There are retirement homes here for different strata of society.

[11:50 AM, 10/15/2022] Wong PC: Thanks, Mon, I will keep that in mind. After all, my two children are based in KL.
